This 21 days Ugandan safari takes you through all the major tourism destinations in Uganda. This safari takes you all around the different tourism circuits of Uganda. The safari will start with the discovery of the Capital area zone treasures which include the Royal Kasubi tombs-a preserved UNESCO site as well other heritage sites; the Uganda museum, the Bahai temple and Makerere University characterized with a number of monuments. A drive to the eastern part of the country will take you to Buganda?s human born river-Sezibwa and its brownish falls and later pass you through the largest remaining bloc of the tropical rain forest of Mabira.

From Jinja, you have the opportunity to raft the source of the mighty Nile river which is one of the most exhilarating rafting experience you can get in the world. The source of the Nile and the Bujagali falls are one of the hidden treasures with in this region. The safari will later take you to Mt. Elgon, an extinct volcano (50 km y 80 km) the fourth highest mountain in Uganda. The Bagisu and the Sabiny are the two interesting ethnic tribes around the mountain. Other tourist attractions include unique flora and fauna species, scenic peaks of Wagagai, gorges and hot springs bubbling up to 48oC and the romantic Sipi falls.
From Mbale the safari will extend you to Murchison Falls-the largest conservation area in Uganda characterized the magnificent Murchison Falls as well as a stunning semi arid habitat that has attracted a variety of wildlife including elephants, buffaloes, giraffes and lions. The launch trip to the bottom of the Falls is unforgettable, since it involves not only having an experience of the Biblical Nile but also seeing the crocodiles, hippos and birds that bask on the river banks.

A drive southwest ward will take you to Kibaale National park-probably the park with the highest density of primates on the African continent. Another omissible attraction in this park is the Bigodi wetland sanctuary rich in birdlife. Visiting the savannah plains of Queen Elizabeth National Park where you can see a wide diversity of game such as elephants, lions, buffaloes, hippos, and leopards is another awesome experience of the safari. Other activities to be carried out on the vacation include; a hunt for the tree-climbing lions lounging on old fig trees in the Ishasha region as well as a launch cruise on Kazinga Channel where schools of hippos and crocodiles can be seen. A wide variety of birds at the channel present a haven to birders yet the tropical rain forests of Maramagambo are a treasure to nature lovers.

The climax of the safari will be tracking the mountain gorillas from Bwindi Impenetrable forest national park. Mountain gorillas are one of the most endangered species vanishing from the wild. Scientists estimate that currently there are about 700 mountain gorillas in the world with half of its population residing in Uganda?s montane forests. Looking into the deep blue eyes of these elusive giants is quite an unforgettable experience. Later the safari will take you to the beautiful lake Bunyonyi-the second deepest lake in Africa and Lake Mburo National park-the best place in the country to see the eland antelopes. The tour will end with a tour of the Ssese Islands of Lake Victoria (Bugala and Bukasa), where you can relax in the uncontaminated white serene sandy beaches.

TOUR ITINERARY

 

Day 1: Kampala

After breakfast our safari guide will pick you from your hotel for a Kampala city tour as you refresh yourself from the jet lag. The tour will take you to different heritage sites which include the Kasubi tombs-a burial site for the Kings of Buganda, the Uganda museum-the oldest museum in East Africa, Makerere University-one of the oldest educational institution in Africa and the Bahai temple-the only temple of Bahai faith in Africa. Spend the evening relaxing, or carry your own shopping in Kampala?s local markets that are also worthy to visit. Dinner and overnight at your preferred hotel in Kampala

 

Day 2: The Source of the River Nile

After breakfast drive to Jinja, which is the past most industrialized town in Uganda. Have a stop over at Bibbo village to pay a visit to the Sezibwa falls formed by the only Human born river Sezibwa. Later drive to Jinja. The Asian quarters, the brewery industries and the colorful gardens are one of the enroute attractions you can see on the drive. Visit the true Source of the Nile where the Biblical Nile emerges from Lake Victoria marking the starting point of its 6400 miles journey that ends in the Mediterranean Sea as well as Gandhi?s monument. Proceed to the ?Bujagali Falls?, to view the spectacular rapids on the river Nile a few kilometers from the source. Dinner and Overnight at Jinja hotel

 

Day 3: Jinja

Spend the whole day trying the unforgettable emotion of the white water rafting on the World high grade rapids of the Mighty Nile-the World?s second longest river. Have picnic lunch at the Bujagali falls. Dinner and Overnight at Jinja

 

Day 4: Jinja - Mt Elgon NP

After early breakfast drive to Mbale arriving late afternoon. Relax at the lodge as you refresh from this long journey. Dinner and overnight at

 

Day 5: Mt Elgon National Park

After break fast visit the Romantic Sipi Falls found in Kapchorwa, north of Mbale. We shall go for nature walk where you will see different floral species including Elgonensis lobelia and dotted clusters of peculiar groundsels. After having lunch, visit the caves and the plantations of coffee, matooke and sugar cane. In the evening return to Mbale, for dinner and overnight at Mount Elgon Hotel.

 

Day 6: The Rhinos of Ziwa Sanctuary

After breakfast, leave Mbale for Murchison Falls National Park. Passing via Kampala have a panoramic drive northwest through the famous battle zone of the Luwero Triangle. Have a stop at Ziwa Rhino?s sanctuary. Following extinction of Uganda?s rhino in the early 1980s during the period of civil unrest and heavy poaching, a sanctuary has now been established to breed black and white rhino, and restore rhino populations in Uganda?s protected areas in a later stage. Day 7: Murchison Falls NP

After breakfast, go for a morning game drive which will take you through different habitats. On the drive you may see different animals which include giraffes, Elephants, Bushbucks Lion, Jackal, Hartebeest and a variety of birdlife. Take a drive to the top of the falls. From the different viewpoints you will be able to see the refreshing spray as the second world?s longest river, the Mighty Nile thunders through different rapids from a 7-metre gap to fall over 40 metres below. Return to the lodge for lunch and later proceed to the river for a launch trip from where a number of animals can be seen. These include schools of Hippos, crocodiles, water birds, sometimes elephants, among others. Many birds can also be seen at the banks of the river. These include goliath herons, Egyptian geese, pelican bee-eaters, kingfishers, Hornbills, cormorants and the rare shoebill stork. Evening game drive before you retire for dinner and overnight at Paraa Safari Lodge/

 

Day 8: Murchison Falls Conservation area

After breakfast you will enter the tropical rain forest of Budongo for a guided nature walk. From the forest, there are a number of chimpanzees as well as other primates. Have lunch and relax as you regain for another superb evening a game drive on the Northern banks of the Nile from where you will be able to spot elephants, lions, Rothschild?s giraffes, cape buffalos, waterbucks, oribi, bushbucks, spotted hyenas, hartebeests and at times leopards and lions. Day 9: Fort Portal

After breakfast start off from Murchison Falls National Park for Fort portal. Heading Southwest wards through the Albertine rift, this journey takes you through beautiful scenic area characterized by escarpments of the western arm of the Great East African Rift Valley. On reaching the colorful and beautiful Fort Portal town located in the shadow of the mythical Mountains of the Moon, continue to the lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 10: Kibale Forest National Park

After an early breakfast, proceed to Kibale Forest National Park for Chimpanzee trekking. While on the track you will be able to encounter other different primate species which include Red-Colobuses, grey cheeked Mangabeys, black-and-white colobus monkeys, the blues as well as other wildlife such as butterflies, birds and many other small insects. Your tour guide will guide you through tree identification in the forest as well as in explaining to you the other features of the forest. After tracking return to the lodge for lunch after which you will take a nature walk through the Bigodi Swamp. On the walk different birds and mammals can be seen. Day 11: Kibale Forest - Queen Elizabeth

After breakfast drive to Queen Elizabeth National park.?You will enter the park while viewing the mystical Rwenzori Mountain range. With a game drive en-route you may see different animals which include the comical warthogs, lions, leopards, buffaloes, elephants, hyenas and a variety of antelope species. After lunch, proceed to Kazinga Channel for a launch cruise. On the cruise different animals can be seen drinking water along the shores. Day 12: Queen Elizabeth NP

After a cup of coffee embark on an early morning game drive along Kasenyi tracks and Queens mile in the park and expect to see lions, elephants, cape buffalos, warthogs, spotted hyenas, mongoose, waterbucks, kobs and, if lucky, the leopard, plus a lot of small animals and birds. Drive back to the lodge for lunch. In the afternoon drive to Ishasha Sector of Queen Elizabeth via Maramagambo Forest for dinner and overnight at Savannah Hotel.

 

Day 13: The Ishasha sector

After breakfast take a game drive on a search of the famous tree climbing lions which are always spotted clinging on old fig trees. A drive trough this open savannah landscape characterized with a variety of acacia trees is quite a memorable adventure. Proceed to Bwindi Impenetrable National found in the southern part of the country. Time permitting make a visit to the local communities to have an adventure of Uganda?s rural communities or relax at the lodge. Dinner and overnight at Buhoma Homestead

 

Day 14: Gorilla Tracking

An early breakfast and entry into the gorilla sanctuary of the spectacular Bwindi Impenetrable forest. This tropical moist forest is a home to half of the remaining mountain gorillas that are consecrated in dramatic, heavily forested and dense landscapes. Looking into the deep eyes of the rare, moving and fascinating mountain gorillas is quite an unforgettable experience that you can only receive from Uganda. Day 15: The Little Switzerland of Africa

After having breakfast, we shall take a scenic drive to Kabale taking you through the beautiful terrain of the rolling hills with terraced landscape. The scenery and the cool temperatures have awarded this area to be referred to as the "Switzerland of Africa? sine it nearly resembles the Swiss Alps. We shall have a convenient stopover at the Bakiga Museum in Kabale to discover the culture of the people living in the area. After having lunch, take a boat ride on Africa?s second deepest lake. The boat ride will take you to various islands for bird viewing and sight seeing. Dinner and overnight at Bushara Island/ Bunyonyi Over land Camp/ Bunyonyi Safari Resort.

 

Day 16: Lake Mburo National Park

After breakfast, you will drive to Lake Mburo National Park, the smallest savanna national park in Uganda. Reaching Mbarara by lunch time, have lunch at Lake View Regency Hotel. Take an evening game drive through the park. On the drive you expect seeing beautiful impalas, cape buffalos, zebras, oribis, elands and topi. Along with the game drive, many visitors also enjoy a boat trip on Lake Mburo. A number of acacia associated and water birds can also be seen in the park. These include Papyrus gonoleks, Brown-faced lapwings, Carruther?s cisticolas, the extraordinary White winged Warbler and Bare-faced Go-away bird. Dinner and overnight at Mantana Tented Camp/

 

Day 17: Lake Mburo NP - Kampala

Start your day with an early morning game drive through the park and later return to the lodge for breakfast. Go for a guided nature walk to the salt lick area where there is a blind observatory animal that can allow you to see more than four different animal species licking salt from the salty soils. After having lunch, embark on the drive to Kampala having a stopover at the Equator for some photos arriving in Kampala late evening. Dinner and Overnight at Kampala

 

Day 18: UWEC & Ssese Islands

After having breakfast, you will be transferred to Uganda Wildlife Education centre found in Uganda?s past colonial administration town of Entebbe. From this exsitu conservation area the tour guide will take you through different exhibits and adequate you with more information concerning Uganda?s mammals, reptiles and birds. After this brief tour, you will board the ferry boat which will take you to Ssese Islands, an archipelago of 84 islands on Lake Victoria. The navigation will take you to the beautiful bay of Lutoboka, in Bugala Island, for dinner and overnight at Mirembe Resort Beach.

 

Day 19: Bukasa Island

After breakfast, take an excursion to Bukasa Island, the second largest island in the Ssese island archipelago. The exploration of Bukasa Islands characterized by beautiful lake shores and forested lands give an unforgettable experience. Have lunch and continue with your expedition in the Islands. Return to Bugala islands by evening having dinner overnight at Mirembe Resort Beach.

 

Day 20: On the Beach at Bugala Island

Spend this day relaxing at the white serene sandy beaches. Other activities include swimming in the uncontaminated and transparent water of Lake Victoria, fishing in the waters of Lake Victoria characterized by numerous fish species, or hire a bicycle to explore the island and the forest. Day 21: Return to Entebbe
